Education and Outreach for EDV in Nevada:REA250 recently submitted a proposal to DOE. The goal of this project is to accelerate the mass market introduction and penetration of EDV's. Specifically, the objectives of the project will focus on engaging secondary school students in 14 Nevada high schools, their families, and general consumers--first within the state and then nationally. Read the informational project narrative here. EDV Test Corridor:Initiated by the Northern Nevada Urban Development Corporation (NNUDC) and the Renewable Energy Accelerator (REA250.com), the Electric Drive Vehicle Test Corridor seeks to position northern Nevada to attract state-of-the-art commercial and industrial activity in order to create a West Coast RDT&E, manufacturing, and distribution hub for a new global economy. Specifically, the EDV Initiative is designed to make northern Nevada a world leader in this new growth industry, leveraging and reinforcing the phenomenal R & D in the Bay Area and Capitol Region of California. In order to facilitate this process, the Advanced Electric Drive Vehicle Initiative proposes the implementation of a state-of-the-art industrial complex in Reno/Tahoe that uses geothermal and other renewable resources to power the production of zero and low emission vehicles and sub-assemblies in an environmentally responsible process that can be the template for implementation nation-wide. Reno/Tahoe is especially suited for the monitoring and record the performance of EDVs in a variety of road conditions from urban congestion to high mountain transit. In addition, Class A office space is under development by NNUDC in downtown Reno, adjacent to I-80 and UNR. The developers are interested in providing space to zero emission vehicle manufactures and their sub-assembly partners to anchor the growth of downtown Reno. The developers are also committed to building a solar power plant on the rooftops of this urban complex. Building on the strong business climate as well as vibrant arts community, and strong focus on workforce training, many of the companies we have talked to are intrigued with the idea of a zero emission industry that is back by renewable energy production. The Advanced Electric Drive Vehicle Initiative positions the US to take the lead in accelerated zero emission vehicle RDT&E while at the same time, intelligently and deliberately developing viable, integrated market solutions and standards.
